Have a knack for organizing? Join us in supporting our community by volunteering in our Food Connections Market. Volunteers will assist Food Connections Market staff with projects, such as:
- Restocking Dry and Canned Food Items:
- Volunteers will restock dry and canned food items by placing cans, cereal, pasta, rice, etc., onto carts categorized by type and quantity. They will work independently, making decisions based on demand and logic.
- Gleaning Dry/Canned Food, Produce, and Bread Items:
- Volunteers will glean dry/canned food, produce, and bread items by sorting through totes or boxes to organize similar items onto carts. They will inspect each item for damage or expiration dates. Additionally, they will examine produce for quality, discarding any items with mold or damage.
- Cleaning and Consolidating Pallets:
- Volunteers will clean and consolidate pallets by sweeping and picking up trash, then transferring cases and items from partially filled pallets to other pallets. This process empties pallets, creating more space for full pallets.
Please keep in mind:
- All volunteers must be individually registered for the shift before coming to volunteer. You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in the Food Connections Market.
- Respect, fairness, and kindness are essential. Negative remarks or harassment will not be tolerated. Civil Rights training is required for volunteers aged 18+
- Closed-toed shoes are required and volunteers should bring a water bottle
- Repeat volunteers and those who can lift 50 lbs are preferred.
- Volunteers must read the fine print and best buy dates, work independently, and use logic for restocking. They'll be on their feet for the entire shift and may need to convey instructions to partner agencies. Safety requirements must be followed at all times.
